The Humboldt Broncos, another hockey team, took to social media to express their sorrow, stating, 'There are no words – only heavy hearts.' They extended their deepest condolences to the Southern Alberta Mustangs and all those affected by this tragedy, emphasizing their solidarity and support.
The mayor of Humboldt, Rob Muench, also shared his condolences, highlighting the deep connection between hockey and the community. He mentioned that several players from the team were billeted with local families, including his own, and that the loss has affected the entire town.

Prime Minister Mark Carney also addressed the incident, describing it as a 'nightmare' and expressing his condolences to the families and the team.
The collision occurred around 11 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 2 and 55 Avenue, at the north entrance to Stavely. The semi-truck, driven by a 40-year-old man from Stavely, was heading northbound on Highway 2 when it collided with the players' vehicle, which was driving east across the intersection. The driver of the semi-truck sustained minor injuries and was treated on the scene.
