Cold Weather Causes Subway Cable Fall in Brooklyn
In a chilling incident on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 3:27 PM, a cable from the elevated subway tracks in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn, fell onto multiple cars below, causing significant damage and disrupting transportation. The incident occurred on Fulton Street, a busy thoroughfare in the neighborhood.
The four-inch heavy cable, which is typically used for signal and communication purposes, dropped onto approximately two blocks of Fulton Street around 6:30 a.m. The extreme cold weather is believed to have caused the cable to expand and droop, leading to its detachment from the structure.
幸运的是,没有人员受伤。然而,该事件导致 Fulton 街从 Elton 到 Linwood 之间的道路被关闭,对多名车主造成影响。MTA 工作人员正在现场清理,并协助处理受损车辆。
Despite the damage, the elevated J subway service remained unaffected, ensuring that commuters could still access the transportation system. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with extreme weather conditions and the importance of regular maintenance of infrastructure.
